What's New for the Ford Ranger?
The latest Ford Ranger has been completely redesigned from the first generation Ford fuel efficient truck. Today's Ranger is larger while still keeping with the efficient reputation of the original Rangers. An FX2 package (rear-wheel) has recently been added as an option for customers; while it is not a four-wheel drive, it does offer the ability to ride some questionable trails. This package also offers off-road tires, a suspension tuned for off-roading, and an electronic-locking rear differential. Other new offerings for the Ford Ranger include a pickup box extender as well as three new exterior colors: Rapid Red with a Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Iconic Silver, and Race Red.
Performance
The typical Ford Ranger will be outfitted with a 2.3L turbocharged four cylinder gasoline engine that provides up to 270 horses under the Ford's hood and up to 310 ft-lb of torque. This is paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission.
Customers can choose to add the Terrain Management System, which will optimize engine responsiveness as well as gearing in order to provide the smoothest ride possible on all types of terrain. With the Terrain Management System, you'll also enjoy four drive mode choices: Mud/Ruts, Normal, Sand, and Grass/Gravel/Snow.
Off-road capability is paramount to the performance of a Ford Ranger! Combined with fuel efficiency, the Ranger makes a great choice for those who enjoy country roads.
Interior and Design
The Ford Ranger of today is larger than previous generations. You can also add an extended cab to the truck for extra passenger room. Should you do so, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the cabin room of the Ford Ranger. The rear seat offers a great deal of legroom, something not present in other comparable trucks.
The interior can be as practical or as luxurious as the customer chooses. There are three trim levels to the Ford Ranger, so the customer can go as "bare bones" or as loaded as he or she wishes.
Safety
All Ford Rangers, no matter which trim level you choose, are equipped with a neat safety system called Ford CoPilot360. You'll have access to a number of exterior cameras, rear cameras to assist in backing the Ranger, and all the typical airbags you expect in modern vehicles. However, with Ford CoPilot360, you'll get the following:
- BLIS, a blind spot monitoring system
- Lane-keeping assist
- Lane departure warning
- Forward collision warning with automatic braking assist
These are just a few features of the Ford CoPilot360, and they are just the base features. Higher trim levels offer even more safety features.
Trim Levels
The Ford Ranger offers three trim levels:
- the XL, or the base model
- the XLT, which is a great mid-level trim
- the Lariat, which is the "loaded" version of the Ranger
Each of these levels offer off-road addition packages.
